This is a post no founder ever wants to write, but today we’re sharing the tough news that we’re winding down operations for PriceLevel. We’ve learned so many lessons about the space, but ultimately we lost conviction about its viability so we decided to cease operations here versus turning it into a zombie start-up.
We’re proud of what we’ve built:
- We grew our pricing database to cover over 150 vendors across 100 categories.
- We’ve unlocked prices for vendors who only list “Contact Us” on their pricing sites and listed the discount levers companies have used to negotiate discounts as steep as 76%.
- We found $205,000 in annual savings for customers using our benchmarking service.
- We reached the front page of Hacker News when we launched and made it all the way to the #2 spot for over 24 hours.
We wouldn’t have been able to do this without our investors who bet on us when it was just a napkin idea. Thank you to Krishna Srinivasan and the LiveOak Ventures team, Chris Bakke, Darren Nix, Daniel O’Shea, and a dozen other angel investors. We won’t forget your support.

We wanted to honor the mission for a while longer so we’re making all of our pricing insights available for free until July 2, 2025. During this time, we will not take any new contributions as we focus our attention on new endeavors.
